      <image:title>Wednesday Wilson - Meet Wednesday!</image:title>
<image:caption>Wednesday Wilson is an entrepreneur in the making. She is committed to becoming a kid-millionaire, and is never short of ideas on which business to start next. I have been so fortunate in the process of writing this series to have worked in the classroom brainstorming ideas with kids from grades 1-4 on what kinds of businesses Wednesday should start. It’s been eye-opening to say the least! Each character in the book is based loosely (and sometimes tightly!) on people in my life. They are also based in two kinds of research: Primary (real-life interviews/workshops), and Secondary (learning from other people’s research). I am lucky to pay homage to the amazing people I know, who emit love, thoughtfulness, and kindness above all else.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Kids Can Press - July 2023 When Wednesday Wilson and her best friend, Charlie, get an unexpected day off from school, they plan to work on a new business idea. But their day gets upended when they’re forced to spend it with Ruby Beautiful, their former best friend who dumped them for the Emmas. Things get even stranger when Ruby comes to Charlie’s defense after the Emmas make fun of his freckles. After all, Ruby’s cool older brother, Raj, said that everyone wants freckles these days. ”This upbeat story provides readers with information and vocabulary for building a business but even greater lessons about friendship, communication, and self-worth.” – Kirkus Reviews</image:caption>

A promising start to a new early chapter book series.” Wednesday could not have come to life without the voices of my own children, Dario and Oakland, who are of mixed race and opened my eyes to the lack of representation in books. They spent countless hours adding their own voices to my manuscript to provide authenticity to my characters where I, as a white woman, fell short.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Usha and the Stolen Sun</image:title>
<image:caption>OWLKIDS BOOKS Spring 2020 Usha lives in a town where the sun hasn’t shone for as long as anyone can remember. Only her grandfather remembers its brilliance and tells Usha stories about the time before other people took the sun away, building a wall to keep it all to themselves. So Usha decides to do something and sets off in search of the sun. When at last Usha reaches the wall, she shares her grandfather’s stories, even the ones that rightfully make her angry, and piques the curiosity of the people on the other side until they are inspired to remove the bricks, one by one to better hear what Usha has to say. Because Usha didn’t give up, they bring the wall down. Inspired by the idea of civil discourse, this book offers a timely message of communication and compassion. "Usha’s bravery and determination are a wonderful example for every young reader, as she demonstrates courage when speaking out and taking action for what is right, even when victory seems impossible." - Mighty Village Available for purchase via all major book distributors, and at your favourite local shop!</image:caption>

<image:caption>OWLKIDS BOOKS Fall 2017 When Milo’s family moves to a new city, he vows to officially retire from having fun. So he stays inside for days while his little sister, Georgie, yearns to explore the new neighborhood. Finally, Milo ties Georgie to the end of a ball of yarn so she can go out, on one condition: she has to come home when he tugs the string twice. But one day, Georgie isn’t at the end of the string. Which means Milo might just have to step outside and discover everything he’s been missing. Charming, detailed artwork illustrates their vibrant new city in this heartwarming story about supporting each other, building community, adapting to change, and embracing new things. <image:caption>ORCA BOOKS Spring 2013 Theo is brokenhearted when he accidentally lets go of the string of his party balloon. As he watches it float out of sight, Theo wonders where his balloon might have gone. Luckily, his older brother Zeke knows everything about everything. Zeke explains that it is a little-known fact that all lost balloons end up in Chicago, the Windy City. Then he tells Theo about Frank, who is responsible for collecting all the balloons in the world. Theo is so touched by Frank's story that he decides to send him a message of hope the only way he knows how. "This story is for every child who has ever let go of a balloon and wondered where it went. Zeke's fanciful story is a gift to his younger brother, strengthening the bonds between them. It is a fine choice for story time and a welcome addition to all libraries." – School Library Journal AWARDS: CCBC Best Books | 2014 | Commended Chocolate Lily Award nominee | 2014 | Short-listed Available for purchase via all major book distributors, and at your favourite local shop!</image:caption>

<image:title>Nye, Sand and Stones - Why is Nye so Angry?</image:title>
<image:caption>Young Nye doesn’t understand why the people on her Island of Sand work so hard to build beautiful sandcastles every day if they are destined to be ruined by the stones catapulted over by the people of the Island of Stones every evening. When she asks “Why?” all she ever hears in response is “Because.” Nye is angry, and rightfully so! <image:title>Nye, Sand and Stones - Why was the story important for me to tell?</image:title>
<image:caption>Nye was important because I wanted to show a young girl fighting against a custom to which her people had become inured.
